Swedish independent game developer 10 Chambers Collective – formed in 2015 by nine industry veterans known for titles such as PAYDAY: The Heist and PAYDAY 2 – is now taking their new game GTFO,  a 4 player co-op action/horror FPS aimed at hardcore gamers to Early Access. The game will use a system they call “The Rundown”, where the game is regularly updated with new expeditions (i.e. maps) that replace the previous ones.

GTFO is a 4-player co-op action/horror FPS game, made for hardcore gamers looking for a challenge. The game takes place in a terrifying underground facility called “the Complex”, where your team’s survival relies on your ability to communicate, coordinate – and count your bullets. As ammunition is scarce, firing your weapons is always the last resort. The game made headlines already in 2018 when it was playable for the first time at E3, and landed awards such as “Best Cooperative Game”, “Editors’ Choice Award” as well as nominations for “Best of E3”, with journalists describing it as a mix of Left 4 Dead and Aliens. Today, it is released as Early Access on Steam

“GTFO is a very ambitious Early Access release. We’ve been developing the game for almost four years now – we finally want to put it in our community’s hands and let them join us in the journey to version 1.0. The Early Access phase will test the Rundown concept; different types of expeditions and challenges, how long should they last, how often we’re going to put out new ones, and so on. It will be a very exciting time for hardcore gamers that will have the chance to experience content that may never exist again”, said Ulf Andersson, founder of 10 Chambers Collective and the game designer behind the PAYDAY franchise.

In GTFO, you and your co-op teammates play as prisoners, held captive by a mysterious entity called “The Warden.” You are sent down on deadly expeditions to carry out different tasks and retrieve various artifacts. These expeditions vary in difficulty, with the ones taking place deeper underground being harder. It starts our challenging and gets increasingly so; for example, during the Early Access alpha test, a total of 303,954 prisoners were sent down to the Complex. Only 3,786 of them came back!

“When you start GTFO you are presented with the Rundown, this is the work orders you’ve been given by The Warden. Each work order represents an expedition down to the Complex, which will vary in type of environment, the population of monsters, what kind of objective you have and other variables. What is always constant in GTFO, is that survival hinges on the cooperation between the members of the team. Work together or die together,” said Simon Viklund, member of 10 Chambers Collective.

Even though GTFO is released in Early Access today, the game already has a vibrant and growing community. During the alpha and beta tests, 10 Chambers has managed to build an active Discord server with about 80,000 members – growing every day. Here, hardcore gamers can gather to try and unravel the mystery of the Complex and The Warden as well as find teammates to battle the challenging undergrounds with.

“It’s fantastic to see that we have already such an active and friendly community, that has been given us enormous support during these years, with everything from words of encouragement to alpha bug reports and feedback. Now, we can finally put GTFO in their hands. Our Discord is of huge help as GTFO wouldn’t work with the usual random match-making mechanics. As this game is a challenge for hardcore gamers, you will need to find the right teammates. The official GTFO Discord is a good place to look,” said Ulf Andersson.

GTFO Early Access is available on Steam for $34,99. The game will be regularly updated with new content.
